10 Minutes That Can Put Your New Homebuilding Concerns Into Perspective
One of the most common questions I get as homebuilders is, “How long will it take to build my new home?” That’s understandable. People get excited about moving into their new dream home and they want to make arrangements to have everything in place so that when the home is complete, they can move right in.
On question I don’t hear as often—and wish that I would—is, “How long does it take to plan my new home?” That’s a really critical question as well. And while there’s no set answer (every family and every home is a little bit different), I’d like to be so bold as to suggest that 10 minutes up front can make all the difference in the world?
How is that even possible? What can you accomplish in just 10 minutes?
The beginning of the homebuilding process is all about information. You really can’t make an informed decision until you have some basic information at your fingertips. That includes gathering information such as:
What are the newest developments and trends?
This really isn’t so much about what’s cool or trendy at the moment. It’s more about what new developments are happening in homebuilding that can impact the comfort, convenience and efficiency of your new home.
What are other people in your situation doing?
It’s great to scour Internet sites for cool ideas, but if someone is building a $750,000 home and you’re more in the $250,000 range, that’s really not going to help you. You need to find information about homes that fit your lifestyle.
What’s your budget?
It’s important to set a realistic budget. Sometimes new homeowners bite off more than they can chew. Other times, homeowners can afford more but are tempted to cut corners to save money. What you really need to do is find a plan that fits your real budget and delivers the features your want within that budget.
